Apples... A Still Life

'A Plate of Apples' 8x10 pastel
Time to play! The inspiration for this painting is a painting by Matisse called 'A Bowl of Oranges'. At the Art Institute of Chicago last week , I bought a wonderful book on Matisse. I just love his bold compositions and use of color. This is my second version. The first one was a little too dull and stiff. For this one I just had fun with applying the pastel and playing with color.

This was influenced from Matisse? Wow. I saw it and was reminded of Cezanne's still lifes! Ah well, they both had a way with color, didn't they?

  2. Really nice, Karen! Maybe I would like still life more if I tried to be bolder with color.
