Friday Feature: Displaying & Storing Pastel Minis

Does your head ever spin so much that you can't sleep?  That was me last night. I had decided it was time to try to do my first You Tube art video and I tossed and turned trying to decide what I would start with.  I get so many questions about storing my mini pastels that I thought it would make a good You Tube video.

I just needed to figure out how to do one!  I have only recently discovered You Tube. Sure I knew about it but I didn't realize it was a treasure trove of great videos on any subject that interests you. I found a video interview with Tony Hillerman and a video on how to speak Navajo. (some of my current interests)  So why not put some of my tips on You Tube?

So  I am going to start a new blog feature called Friday Feature: What's in my Studio.  I will blog and post a You Tube video featuring art supplies, techniques and tips that I have found helpful. If you have suggestions for topics please let me know!

WHERE TO FIND ATC/ACEO mini SUPPLIES

  • I find frames and mini easels at local craft/hobby and art stores. I have even found mini frames at Walmart!
  • I like Jerry's Artarama for their wide selection of ATC supplies. They have the Krystal Klear bags and mats as well as precut 2.5 x 3.5 paper.  Here is the link to their ATC page

  • I have found 5x7 and 8x10 mats with 2.5x3.5 openings on Ebay. Do a search to find a seller.

    That was fun and informative! It is always nice to 'meet' the artist; and I have been following your pastel blog for a little while now. You are most generous with tips and information - and it is all very helpful for 'newbies' such as myself. I'll look forward to next Friday's installment.

    Thanks Suzanne! I have to work out the technical things like looking at the camera! I'll have my kids critique me but I'm glad I at least figured it out. Glad you enjoyed it!

    Loved your video. I have seen some that were poorly done, but you are both relaxed and informative. And I thought your dog running around in the background was too cute!
    Any tips for storing non-minis? I have an abundance, and don't want to display or mat and frame so many. I am thinking about using the glassein sheets, but given the amount of pieces, it doesn't seem economical...

    Thanks for the great tips, Karen, and especially for sharing your sources. I purchased two of your mini paintings at your open house last fall, framed them, gave one as a Christmas gift and the other hangs in my studio for my enjoyment. They are wonderful!

    Thank s Beena! I appreciate it. I do store paintings flat in a box layered with glassine. I get my glassine on a big roll at any art supply store online. I do also use sheets of newsprint which works but since it isn;t archival it probably isnt good for long term storage.
