'Iceland 6' 2.5 x 3.5 pastel ©Karen Margulis sold |
Some people like to read. Some like a cocktail. Some just like to relax and watch the world go by. Vacations are a time to kick back, take a deep breath and let go. When I am on vacation one of my favorite things to do to relax is to paint. Sitting down with my little pastel kit is the ultimate way to unwind. Painting allows me to escape completely. Keeping it small and simple is the key.
Painting on vacation is different than going on a trip to paint. Sometimes the trip is not about art. But I always feel the need to sketch or paint no matter what the reason for the trip. My small Art Anywhere kit is the perfect solution. Small and manageable and always there when the urge to paint strikes.... and it always does!
On my recent Caribbean cruise I brought a kindle full of books but my preferred lounge chair activity was painting! I even threw my kit into a backpack and painted on the islands. Painting small made it all possible. While on the cruise I brought along some of my Iceland photos and did a series of Iceland minis. Each painting is 2.5 x 3.5! Ahh the joy of painting small!
All of these painting are available in my Etsy shop $15 each. Click here to purchase.

i combined this post and your last one..(when you dont know what to paint)..I cut a sheet of paper in half and paint small that way... much less intimidating...also, don't remember what post it was , but you spoke of shadow reflections on snow.I was watching the downhill skiing from Colorado over the weekend..I kept watching the shadows and how the color of the snow changed according to what sign it was in front of..Warm reddish snow, cool blue-ish snow..got some ski watching in and also painting practice!
