Would You Like to Paint Bluebonnets?

It's on my bucket list. There are flowers and places I want to paint. The bluebonnets of Texas are high on that list. This Spring I get my chance. I will be heading to Dripping Springs Texas in April to teach a 3 day workshop. I will be hosted by Marsha Young and her wonderful Butterfly Gallery.  Of course we are hoping that the bluebonnets will be in bloom but we will have plenty to paint!

I decided to try my hand at the bluebonnets today. They seemed so familiar. That is because they are in the Lupine family and I am very familiar with the lupine in Maine and Iceland. I chose a piece of blue paper (art spectrum colorfix)  This is not my preferred surface but I thought the blue tone would give me a head start on my flowers. It was a fairly dark surface which allowed the intense colors of the flowers to pop.

I would like to try another bluebonnet painting on light toned paper to see the difference.
