First Stop Texas....Report from the Road

We made it to Texas and the  bluebonnets are still blooming! The adventure has officially begun. As I reported, Marsha Savage and I are team teaching a workshop here in Dripping Springs Texas before heading to Tucson and the Plein Air Convention. We spent the day Thursday exploring the area with our host Marsha Young. We wanted to visit the painting spots for our workshop. Here are some photos:

We didn't paint but we did make time for some sketchbook fun. It was a busy day but a good time sharing this wonderful landscape. We couldn't wait for the workshop to start and to meet the 16 artists who came from all over the country!

Our first day was spent at Mt Gainor Inn. This is a wonderful inn in the country. It is a very peaceful landscape. We were greeted by blustery skies and spitting rain so we had to paint undercover. I started with a demo of the dramatic sky.  The sun came out after lunch for Marsha's bluebonnet demo. We will be posting a more in depth review on our trip blog www.twowanderingartists.com so be sure to check it out!
I'll report back as soon as I can!

  1. Love your sketchbook! Great loose pen-watercolor of the bluebonnets. Do you use sketches as references sometimes? The thumbnail makes sense as a plan for a painting, so do the bluebonnets. Thanks for that good close-up photo of them too. I've seen them in numerous paintings as patches of blue brighter than the sky, but had no idea what the flowers looked like.

Today's painting is beautiful. Love the photo of your plein air setup in front of the scene. You make some major changes when painting, that photo says it all! Of course the values in the photo aren't true either, but I loved the way you played with the far distance in the painting and jazzed up the ground.
