Today I got the pastel DVD by Ann Templeton called 'Abstracting the Landscape' which is perfect timing for my attempts at simplifying my paintings. So I watched the first half of it and then followed her steps with my own photo. The photo I am using of Moab is similar to hers but that is purely coincidence as I had chosen to paint that scene before my dvd arrived! So.......I am documenting my attempt at abstracting the landscape and here is my first installment. Above it my reference photo. It was taken on a very overcast winter day. In the next step I will sketch the main feautures on a piece of white Wallis paper. I am working large for me...16 x 20!
