'Tucker' 8x10 pastel
I am discovering that doing pet portraits can be a challenging experience. Of course the first obstacle is trying to capture a likeness from an often times bad photo. For this painting of Tucker, my client was thrilled that I captured his look and his face....but she was very concerned about all the colors she saw in his fur....why did I use purple and green!!! He's a light tan colored dog! She also didn't like the background color and I didn't even think to ask in advance what color she wanted! Oh well, lessons learned. Now I have to decide whether I will 'fix' this painting for her or just try it again.

Tucker is beautiful, Karen! The dark background really frames him beautifully, and the colors in his fur add so much richness and texture. It's hard to imagine him without the colors!
Thanks Jayne! I am struggling with this one....do I change it to please the client or keep it the way it is to please myself!
This is a beautiful dog. The richness in his coat is due to the colors you used. If you only used tan and beige, I think it would look flat. I also like the background colors. Good luck on your decision.
I don't know why anyone would complain, that's a great picture!
