This is a small painting I did as a warm up before this week's pastel class that I am teaching. We talked about importance of learning to see and control value in our paintings. I introduced a method of starting a pastel painting using a value underpainting with a turpenoid wash. This is the scene we all painted. I hope everyone had fun trying something new!

Love your style of painting and I cherish my marsh scene that I purchased from you awhile back. Wondering if you could explain the technique for the background wash that you taught your students?
Thank you so much! I am so glad you are enjoying your painting. I hope to put my photos of the technique into a slide show this week but basically all we did was a value drawing with a purple Nupastel and washed over it with turpenoid...adding soft pastel over this base. Look for the slide show this week!
Thanks again.
