Today I took out my Stan Sperlak set of Terry Ludwig pastels. I had them safely tucked away since I bought them last fall! I plan on bringing them to the South Carolina coast this November. I am working on a series of small and quick marsh studies and wanted to see what I could do with just this set. I spent about 5-10 minutes on each one. The idea is just to play with colors and compositions and hopefully spark some ideas for larger paintings. These are 4x6. The top one was done on black paper and the bottom one is on Uart. For some reason the bottom one looks darker here than it does in real life.

The bottom one may look darker..but then again it captures the marsh scene quite well... As the Fall sets in the whole mood across the marsh land is changing to this subdued atmosphere..
Nice work Karen. You are lucky to have the marshes for inspiration. I'm holding out for the Karen Margulis Wildflower set of pastels - whichever brand they may be!
Thanks Helen. I appreciate it. It was actually from a reference photo taken last fall.
Donna Thanks! I like your idea for the wildflower pastels!! hmmmm I'll have to see how I could do that.
Both of them,,,very moving....you captured the marsh feeling for me.
