Not that I need another project....but I couldn't resist joining this challenge. Over on Wet Canvas in the pastel forum, Deborah Secor has challenged us to join her students as they try to paint 100 variations on the same composition. You may have seen the recent Pastel Journal article about artist Marla Bagetta and her 100 paintings. She is the inspiration for the challenge. Read more about it here. I started by choosing a simple composition and doing some notans or value sketches to see if this will be an interesting enough composition to paint many times. I decided that it was better as a 5x7 rather than a square. I plan to devote no more than 30 minutes for each painting. I'll post my first one later.

Looking very good, both this sketch and your first painting, above. I'm so glad you decided to join us!!
Anyone else who wants to give it a go is welcome. You can come over to the Pastel Forum and then post your variations in the appropriate forum and link back to it in the original thread. (Oils in the oil forum, watercolors in watercolor, etc.)
Oh, and just to clarify, I'm doing 40 paintings in two months, and most of my students are in that ballpark, too. Once Thanksgiving gets here we know we won't have much time, BUT if you're going for 100 I'm rooting for you, Karen!!
Thank you so much Deborah and thanks for getting this started. I think 40 is more manageable. I am curious if I will get tired of the image after say 50! I think I need to do more just to see what happens.
