'Nesting' 11x14 pastelIn my Back to Basics pastel class we have been studying the still life. Since most of us in the class are primarily landscape painters it has been a stretch. Last week I decided we would bring the outside in and do still life paintings using objects found in nature. For the demo I painted from an abandoned nest I have. The focus for the class was to start the painting with big simple shapes and gradually add the details. I love to paint nests for some reason!

Great nest! Nests are so interesting. I'm with you, still lifes, or is it lives, are a challenge for me. I much prefer the landscape.
