Pawleys Island Day 3....Painting Island Style

'View from the Porch'. 6x6. Pastel

I am loving the Gogh Box. We were on the go today and the box came with me. It was easy to set up and do a quick study and still have time for photos and walks. This morning began cloudy again so we decided to head over to Huntington State Park. We have always had good luck spotting lots of birds here and today was no exception. It was very cloudy and gray so while my friends were watching the wood storks I set up and painted the moody marsh.

We got back to the house in the afternoon just as the sky was breaking. The clouds were dramatic over the ocean but the creek was finally still and had great reflections. The dilemma was what to paint! How about both. I set up on the screen porch, sat in a rocking chair with my Gogh box on a table and painted a couple of studies listening to the sounds of the ocean and gulls.

Then I closed up my box and walked to the front yard to the creek and painted the late afternoon marsh. I couldn't have asked for a better day!

  3. I was sure I'd posted on this one, maybe I wound up closing the tab before hitting Post. I love that first tree in this day's work. All of them are excellent but that first tree has so much character!

It reminds me of why every time I leave my home I sketch any tree that catches my interest, over and over. They can be so fascinating.

  4. Thank you Robert! I too a fascinated by trees even more lately than usual. This evening we went to a new spot for sunset and it had the most wonderful cypress trees dripping in moss. I can't wait to paint them when I get home!
