Today I am posting a work in progress. I started working on this Great Blue Heron and I've gotten as far as the first layer. This is 12x18 on white wallis paper. I was tempted to do a watercolor underpainting but I decided to just do an underpainting with hard pastels and rub it in with foam pipe insulation. This heron is backlit in the photo which will be interesting to do. I'll post an update soon.
