Today I couldn't resist painting these little green apples Caitlin bought for her lunches. I wanted to practice using different methods of applying pastel . One is made up entirely of linear strokes. One is done with using the sides of my pastels with no blending. And one is completely blended with my finger. I decided that I use a combination of all three in my paintings but I use the side strokes the most. It was interesting though to force myself to use just one method for each apple. I really liked the energy of the linear apple and may have to try another one!

I like the first one the most. The colours look more vibrant (that is what I like about pastels) But the other 2 look great too.

i like the first one too. It is closest to my usual style. I am teaching a beginning pastel class and I want the students to see the different ways pastels can be used.

The top apple to me is most intriguing. It appears almost translucent, like form dissolving into energy. Then at another glance, it becomes more solid and substantial. Nice work.
