Painting a Tree

'Tree in the Meadow' 8x10 pastel
Last night at class Marsha had us paint trees. I hestitate to paint trees in class because she is the Queen of trees. Her trees are just gorgeous. It is sillyof me to avoid trees because she could help me with them! It was good practice and for homework we have to paint a different tree. I think I know just the one I have been wanting to paint and I may make it large. We'll see!

I think you did a great job on this tree, Karen! I always put lots of purples in the shaded parts and end up covering them up with more 'real' looking dark greens. Duh! I like seeing the other-than-green colors in your painting.

Fear NOT! You've nicely conveyed the cooling shadows as well as the warming light.

Thanks Donna. I love using purple in trees too!

Thank you Helen. I'm glad it works. I need to keep practicing!
