I was inspired by my visit to the Art Institute of Chicago to paint these poppies. One of the exhibits in the new Modern Wing showcased the work of Cy Twombly. It was called the Natural World and he had several huge paintings that were inspired by nature/flowers. They had the most wonderful colors and textures though they were mostly acrylic with some wax crayon and pastel marks. I hope to try some more with mixed media in the near future, in the meantime I painted this pastel over watercolor based on one of my poppy photos.
