'Seeking Warmth' 5x7 pastel
This is one of my favorite paintings of my cat Jazzpurr. My cats are seeking warmth these days since our temperatures have been below freezing for almost a week. I find them curled up in any patch of sun or in front of a heat vent.
I love painting my cats and it got me thinking about cats in art. I am familiar with Steinlen and his cat drawings but I didn't realize just how much the cat has been a part of art until I came across this wonderful site that I want to share with you. It is the website of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. They have a feature where you can view their art collection online. I stumbled upon their gallery of cat art. Enjoy 51 works of art that feature cats in this gallery. What a wonderful resource!
