Smoky Mountain Snow

'Smoky Mountain Snow' 5x7 pastel
My son Corey just got home from hiking in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park....in the snow! He took a lot of snow photos and I am thrilled. I need to put them on my computer but I asked him to choose 3 random photos and I would paint a snow study from one of them. I love painting the moodiness of winter! This one was done on Uart paper with a nupastel and alcohol wash underpainting.

Excellent....
I'm now preparing a subject like that for my students, in oil.

I followed Jo's link to your blog and can easily see why she linked to you. Your work is just beautiful and this one of the snow just made me sigh!

Just gorgeous! So loose with only the essentials necessary to describe the cold and snow.

Fantastic painting! I used to do a little oil painting (long time ago). Now I just ride my motorcycle in the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoy the scenery.
