I like to do these small paintings as color studies for larger works. Sometimes I do another version of a painting I just finished while I still have the pastels out. It is freeing to just be able to play with color and not worry about how it will turn out. And often, I end up liking these little ones more than their bigger siblings! These were poppies we came across on ahike this past summer in the mountains of Ouray, Colorado. This painting is 3.5 x 2.5 on wallis paper.
