Pastel Workshop in Croatia Day 2

The topic of the day was simplification. It was the second day of the Workshop and after a day in the studio it was time to get outside and paint. After a leisurely breakfast on the patio I set up my easel for a quick lesson and demo on simplifying a busy and overwhelming landscape. The palm tree in the courtyard was the perfect subject. Everyone was encouraged to work small and make studies .

It was a productive morning with many wonderful studies produced. We hung them on our gallery wall which was filling quickly.

The afternoon was spent painting after another demo on using notan to simplify. I used a photo of a pine by the sea that I had taken on our evening walk.

After painting all day another visit to the sea was in order. Some went for a swim in the Adriatic, some walked and took photos. I decided to find a cool spot to sketch and try my new tiny watercolor set. (More on this! Thanks Mary it is great!!)

The day ended with another amazing meal and a sunset that wouldn't end along with celebratory champagne for two artists with a birthday and an anniversary
And to think it is only Tuesday! This is an amazing experience!
