Are You Looking for a Great Budget Friendly Easel?

available $100

I think I have the Baby Bear of easels. Not too big. Not too small. Not too expensive and not to cheap in quality. It is just right for me and it has been a daily partner for probably 10 years! When I first began painting I had a cheap tabletop easel. It served the purpose and actually made it easy for me to have my pastels set up on my desk so I could paint every day.

I graduated to a French easel. I bout it so I could take it on plein air outings. Thats how much I knew back then! That French easel wasn't very user friendly or easy to cart around outside so I set it up inside for my main studio easel. It worked fine for several years. Eventually the nuts wouldn't stay tight and the easel would collapse at random times. Not good!

That is when I decided to buy a nice easel. I was on a budget though and wanted to keep the price under $150. I settled on an H frame easel made by Blicks. It was perfect.....and still is!  It holds small to quite large painting boards. I like that it has a small footprint so it is good for smaller studios. Probably my favorite part of the easel is that the two front adjustment knobs allow me to hook my butcher palette tray so my pastels are right in front of me without needing a table! This was a serendipitous game changer!

Here is a link to what appears to be the same easel. I bought mine 10 years ago so I can't vouch for the current quality.

I bought that exact easel about 3 years ago. I don't think you can beat it for the price. My only issue with it is it's not too ridgid. It tends to wobble a bit it you get a little excited when you're making marks, otherwise I'm happy with it.
