Gone Painting...Another Day in Albuquerque

'Desert Color'. 5x7. Pastel

Today we had no plans. So when Stan Sperlak invited us to go painting with him,Kim Lordier and a few other artists I haven't met, we were excited. We weren't ready as early as they were so we got directions and planned to meet. We missed them though. The gates weren't open so they moved on out of cell range.

We enjoyed the views at the Elena Gallegas open space and decided to visit Petroglyph National Monument. We found some covered benches and I decided it was a good place to paint my daily 5x7. It was actually a challenging spot with lots of dark volcanic boulders and very dry shrubs. Perfect for a close up study of a desert shrub. Here is my reference above. Fred Somers was painting there with another artist and we enjoyed a nice conversation with his wife.
Tonight the IAPS convention officially opens and I am hoping to trade some of my ATCs. I have already met many of my blog readers and Facebook friends. It is so much fun!

That is beautiful, Karen! I am amazed at what you can create with only a brittle, dry shrub as a reference!

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I want whatever type of glasses you buy! I can't believe the color possibilities you saw in this plant! Love it
